Bowtech Proven34 (Med DL)

Longer ATA for those Long Shots!

Bowtech built another nice bow.

If, like me, your hunting season is just a small part of your day-to-day shooting life, and you are looking for a bow that can hunt short and long distances, as well as shoot solid and steady targets in the off season, then this is a bow that should really be on your shortlist!

The Proven is a powerhouse of ALL Bowtech’s bells and whistles. DeadLock Cam adjustment, TimeLock Timing adjustment, and all the technology that has been refined on previous bowtech bows. Combined with years of riser design makes for a really well balanced bow.

The bow is slightly heavier than Bowtech’s other offerings, but I doubt you would even notice, unless you are on a 15 mile hike!

What’s Under the Hood: The Tech That Matters

IMS Technology (Integrate Mounting System)

Bowtech’s engineers added in the IMS Dovetail design into this riser to take advantage of the IMS mounting option for your arrow rest. I have found, though, that not all IMS systems are equal and not everyone fits. Check before you buy… you might need a Bowtech specific IMS mount.

DeadLock Cam System

Adjust cam lean and arrow flight easily and precisely—without a bow press. Just loosen, slide, lock. Done. This is a godsend for archers who like dialing in their own gear, or pros who need fast, repeatable results.

Dual Lock Limb Pockets

Limbs lock into pockets, and pockets into limbs, making movement or involuntary adjustment between shots virtually impossible. Rigid. Solid. I absolutely love this system!

FlipDisc Draw Cycle Options

Choose between “Comfort” mode for a relaxed, easy draw cycle or “Performance” mode for extra speed and a slightly more aggressive feel. It’s like two bows in one. You can shoot and hunt the whole day long on the “smooth” choice, but should that opportunity arise where you need the maximum power and speed from your bow… just flip the disk!

Rotating Modules – Draw Length Adjustability

Standard on pretty much any Bowtech these days is the rotating Modules for adjusting draw length for most draw lenghts. I have heard people say that it reduces the efficiency of the bow but I don’t see it. To be fair, I suppose you might lose a foot or three per second here or there, but the gain in adjustability to hit your own sweetspot exactly… absolutely worth it!

Orbit Dampeners

The Orbit Dampners on the Bowtech works quite well. I haven’t shot the bow without them, but the bow in the out-of-the-box configuration has just enough feel to it so that it still feels like You are shooting the bow… except without the noise and rattle!

GripLock

May Bowtech never remove this option! The ability to adjust the angle to better fit the archer’s hand angle and position is next level! By just adjusting this angle, I have seen average archer’s completely get their torqing bad habits under control.

V2 CentreMass Sight

Makes sense. Better balances your sight, meaning less stabilising weight required. Small wins in weight and balance equals large gains in long distance acuracy.

Who It’s For

The Bowtech Proven34 is for the Longer Draw Length Archer (The “Long” cam version will reach 33″), or the Longer Distance Bowhunter (the 34″ Axle-to-Axle is super stable for those 70yd to 80yd shots!) …but…

It is also for the Target shooter that enjoys Field and 3D shoots. This is the Hybrid bow that can perform anywhere and everywhere. With speed and distance to reach long targets on TAC shoots, and a super comfortable draw cycle for treestand hunting (or flinging hundreds of arrows a week, downrange for competition saturday)

What was our setup?
Bow:
    • 70lbs Bow, set up to 65lbs on the Comfort Module side.
    • 29” Draw Length
    • Ripcord Ratchet Limb Driver
    • HHA NYTRX 1-pin Sight (Dovetail Mount)
    • Conquest Control Freak .500 15″ & 10″
Arrows:
    • Gold Tip Black Label 350 @503gr *
    • FOC 17% – 125 fieldpoints / Broadheads)
      Bohning Bully Fletches
    • 256 fps – 73.2 ft-lbs of KE and 0.571 Slug-ft/s
Release:
    • TRUBall Fulkrum hinge release

My setup is for a comfortable hunt. I am not going after big game (although I could, with this bow) The comfort setting on the FlipDisk is ideal for treestand or saddle hunting. A nice slow and controlled draw that doesn’t give your position away, and you still have more than enough momentum and Kinetic Energy to punch through most of the larger Plains Game we hunt in South Africa.

* I am often questioned about my choice of a heavier arrow… I have tested weights, FOC changes  and fletch correction/noise, and the sweetspot always seems to cross over around 500-520gr where the noise vs speed and KE vs carried Momentum Starts to drop away quickly. I could use a 450g arrow with a different fletch and have some gains. Conversely I could also shoot at higher draw weight… this is just a comfortable shooting scenario for me personally.

Arrow Performance 70lbs:
  • 400gr = 293fps (76 ft-lbs)
  • 450gr = 278fps (77 ft-lbs)
  • 500gr = 266fps (79 ft-lbs)
Realistic Arrow Speed:
— 65 lbs @ 29″ DL —

(The MFJJ Average Guy Setup 😊)

  • 400gr = 283fps
  • 450gr = 270fps
  • 500gr = 256fps

Final Notes

Bowtech Logo Transparent

The Bowtech Proven34 has been my everyday shooting bow since mid 2025, and every day shooting it has been a joy… You know that feeling that you just want to share with someone… anyone…!

I have not had the opportunity to hunt with this bow, because I switched to it too late during the season to get out one more time, but I have no doubt that it will be an exceptional hunting bow. I used to shoot a long axle-to-axle BT-Mag (36″) that was always just too long for my in something like a treestand, where one of my favourite bows, the Bowtech Reign (at 32.6″ axle-to-axle) was really fun to shoot. The Proven34 almost feels like the good-for-everything sweetspot!

Where it really did stand out was the daily challenges and fun shoots we did here at our shop range. Challenging clients and friends to stupid long shots on our furthest targets, is just, in one word: Fun 😄 Holding its own against the Mathews Lift and ARC and Darton TriTech 33 & 35. I would love to take this bow out on a TAC shoot!

Goldtip Black Label Nock CollarsIt may be foolish, but there is a certain kind of confidence borne from the ability to hit target at 100+ yards. I doubt that I would be able to convince myself to ever hunt at such distances, but having knowing that you are acurate and capable increases the confidence in your own abilities exponentially for every shorter distance.

Balance…

There is something to be said specifically about the balance of this bow. Although the riser itself is a bit heavier, I have used a lot less weight on my stabilisers to hit my sweetspot, so I don’t think the bow is much different from any previous bow I have shot after balancing it out. In Fact, My CarbonOne with full kit and quiver weighed in at 8.1lbs while the the complete setup on the Proven34 ended up at 7.6lbs.

Conclusion…

I know these are the words that end off every bow review, especially if its a brand you like, but this bow really is a tac-driver. The GT nock collars and scarred Bully fletches tells the story better than I can. The Bowtech Proven34 will remain a sought after bow for the foreseeable future.
